I had 5 hour layover in Hong Kong so I took the Express and went exploring. I was quite proud of myself for being so brave and adventurous being in a foreign city all by myself. They city was beautiful and nestled right up against jungle-covered hills.
I had planned to take a tram up to Victoria Peak for a scenic view of the city but getting there was difficult. The map made it look easy but for the first few blocks I spent back tracking as I had to find foot bridges to cross busy roads where there weren't any sidewalks or pedestrian crossing. I ran up and down so many stairs I was exhausted, especially since it felt like it was one in morning with the time change. Anyway, I got to the tram station and found out they'd only accept cash. Ugh! I was so frustrated. By the time I found an ATM I was worried I wouldn't have enough time so I just walked around a bit.
(a row of rickshaws)
(my first glimpse of the city through the train window)
(I saw rows and rows of people camped out on cardboard. They weren't homeless so I have no clue what they were doing.)
Short people! I discovered I was as tall or taller than most of the people I passed on the street. I'm only 5'3 so feeling tall was a new experience.
I've been to Hong Kong. It's an amazing city!
ReplyDeleteM and I got lost trying to search for the train entrance to Victoria Peak too. We love Hong Kong, can't wait to go back.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog. What amazing adventures you are having. I look forward to a time when my kids are bigger and we can go on some adventures of our own.
