Shisa Dog
The Japanese believe the shisa dog protects you from evil spirits. Shisas are seen everywhere on Okinawa, usually placed at gates, entrances to homes, and on top of roofs. For a girls day out, a few friends and I went to a little antique store where you can make your own shisa dog. Shisas resemble a dog and a lion and they come in all shapes and sizes so we put our creativity to the test. It was so cool to sit in a little Japanese hut nestled in the jungle, overlooking the ocean while we sculpted with clay. I will definitely go back to make another.

ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to get a glimpse of off the wall things like this that even if I ever made it to Japan, I'd most likely never see. Your dog turned out quite impressive! What did your boys think?
