"Decisions are the worst!"
A direct quote from my favorite 80's movie Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
While the boys were having fun at the park I experimented with the settings on my little camera taking pictures of the hibiscus flowers and ended up being completely disappointed with the results. I'm no photographer and my little Canon Elph doesn't help. I quickly snapped a few pics of Bean to make myself feel better. He's so cute he makes any picture look good.
So it's time. Time to upgrade to one of those big fancy cameras that make every picture look like it was taken by a professional. Do I go with Nikon or Canon? And do either of them come with a warranty in case a drop it in the sand? That would be nice.
Another big decision we can't put off any longer: What should Randy be when he grows up? Right now we're ready to flip a coin. Heads he's an endodontist (Root Canal Extraordinaire) or tails he's an orthodontist (Brace-Face Extraordinaire). Both require more school. Ugh.
Decisions are the worst.

Ortho sounds much pleasant than root canal doc. Yuck! With people putting off going to the dentist now he might have more business doing root canals though....yuck;)
ReplyDeleteI hate making decisions. I want to make the right one so I usualy spend weeks even months researching. Our last camera purchase happened in Palmyra when ours stopped working. I couldn't do any research we just walked into a Walmart and walked out with our camera. Yep I am disapointed. The pics are not as good as I thought they would be and end up blurry???. We payed way too much for what we got. Se reaserach research research!!
ReplyDeleteThat is the key. As for the job thing good luck:)
Go with the Canon Rebel! You'll love it!! And whatever you decide, is there any chance you'll be back in Boston??? (I hope so!!)
ReplyDeleteMel,
ReplyDeleteI don't think you can go wrong with a Nikon, but they're kinda spendy. You should also look at Pentax. I came this close to buying one of their entry level models, can't remember which one. From all that I read it's a great value for the money and more than enough camera for 98 percent of us. Haven't yet bought my digital SLR, but those are the two I would choose from.
We have a Nikon and LOVE it. Also, I will say that my experience with braces was pretty pleasant and they made my teeth straight. Whereas my experience with a root canal wasn't very pleasant. That's all.
ReplyDeleteNikon. Start with a D60 and work your way up as you figure them out. D60s have been way cheaper since the D90s came out, so you should be able to find a deal. I'd go with a two VR lens kit too. E-mail Michael, he's the techie guru.
ReplyDeleteAnd whatever Randy decides to specialize in DO NOT under any circumstances, allow him to do oral surgery. Anything else should be fine!
What about PERIODONTIST?
ReplyDeleteIt's a toss up on the camera - we have the Canon Rebel and LOVE it. We went this route because Consumer Reports rated it the best all-around SLR camera. If you want to borrow it for a good day let me know. It's AWESOME. On the other hand, people with Nikon's love theirs, too. Decisions, decisions.
Tiff and I have a Canon Rebel and so far we like it, still learning the tricks of the SLR though. Tiff's parents are really into photography and her dad has a Nikon while her mom uses a Canon, and they both take really good pics. I think her dad was telling me that the Nikon is a little more technical (you need to understand more what the camera is doing), while the Canon is a bit more user friendly, but they both take amazing pictures. Also, you'll want to get a UV filter for the lens and leave it on always, because in the unfortunate event that you do drop it (as my mother-in-law did with hers) the filter will help protect the lens from breaking. As for Randy, I say flip a coin, he'll be the best in the continental US at whichever one he chooses anyway.
ReplyDeleteI say be a general dentist and be done with it! 55 days 'till graduation! WHAHOOO!!
ReplyDeleteAs for the camera, I can't afford either so who knows?
Digital Marco setting on any camera makes a close up look pro. My cheap $150 cam does some pretty cool ones on that setting. Give it a shot? No pun intended?
ReplyDeleteThe Canon Rebel is the best!!! We have it and love it. We have the original and digital.
ReplyDeletei would go towards endo. mostly because i have no experience with braces. only wisdom teeth pulled. which seemed easy and expensive for how easy it was! i love my nikon and i think they are typically more technical than canons starting out. my MIL has a rebel and she gets great shots too. either one will be so fun, it's a win win.
