Ie Jima, that's Japanese for Ie Island (pronounced E-A), was a 30-minute ferry ride from Okinawa. It's about 13 miles around the island and has mostly farms of sweet potato fields. Lilies grow like weeds along the sides of the road and they host a lily festival next week when fields of lilies are in bloom. The volcano, white sandy beaches, beautiful cliffs dropping down to the ocean, and a luxury resort made this an awesome island to explore.
We showed up at the port to load us and our van on the ferry and wished we knew a little more Japanese than the 5 words we know. We're thankful for the lady at the ticket counter who spoke some English.
The ferry was huge, with enough room to load about 29 cars and one enormous van onto it.
Our room wasn't ready when we arrived at the resort but the pool was calling our name so we did the only thing we could think of--unload our stuff, suit up, and jump into the pool. It was an embarrassingly white-trash thing to do but the Japanese are nice so we knew they'd get over it.
"Cannon ball!!" After a couple hours of swiming at the pool and the beach, our room was finally ready and this was our view from the balcony.
Our weather was rainy and cold, I'm sure you don't miss Boston in the spring. It looks like you have a wonderful Easter weekend!
ReplyDeleteYour pic of the pool is way more blue than the last pic you posted. It looks heavenly.
