Although my mom's cancer is terminal and will never go away, we are learning there are lots of changes, ups and downs along the way. A week ago my mom went in for more tests to see how the chemo is working. The previous results had been very positive and we were hopeful these tests would yield the same results. Unfortunately the cancer in her liver had grown despite the intensive chemo. We were devastated and knew this could be the beginning of the end since we'd been warned once the cancer becomes immune to the chemo she would only have a few months left.
Finally, after a long week filled with despair, Mom got to review the results with the oncologist and he gave us more hope. The cancer's growth was minimal and because my mom is still so healthy there are a couple other options she can try. Nothing will be as powerful as the chemo but they could buy here more time. The doctor said 6-12 months. That is much better than the 3 months we were expecting and so we are grateful. Grateful for each day, each prayer in her behalf.
Each day is a gift.
I get teary when I read these posts. My uncle is still going through a similar thing. They told him he only had 2-4 months and he has almost made it 8 months, thanks to some chemo and the Lord's will. We don't think it will be much longer but have truly cherished the extra time he has been given. I know you will do the same. You will be in our thoughts.
ReplyDeleteWow, we will keep your mom in our prayers. It makes me appreciate my mom more. It's hard living so far away, isn't it? By the way, I sure loved your quilt - how beautiful! And no small accomplishment, especially with two cute little boys to entertain!
