Pain Management

Today I ran until my legs burned and my lungs felt like they were on fire. But it wasn't enough to match the pain of my aching heart.
My mom met with the doctor today and our worst fears were confirmed. The cancer is growing rapidly and there is nothing left to do. The doctor prescribed every possible pain medication under the sun to help manage the horrible pain she is in. He said she has weeks, maybe months left.
And so I laced up my running shoes and ran.
My sister ate chocolate.
My brother played the piano.
We all have our different ways of coping with pain. Wouldn't it be nice if there was medication for heart ache?
When I got home I called my mom. As soon as she spoke I began to cry as I wondered how many more times I would hear her voice.
We both cried as we talked.
I am sad for me.
I am sad for my little brother and sister who are single.
But I weep for my dad.

Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

  22. Dear Melanie! My heart is aching for you. My uncle Rick is in the very same position. His hospice nurse said he probably only has a few more weeks if that. I gave him a very long hug at Thanksgiving knowing it would probably be the last. I know your pain is even greater. There is nothing like a mother! You will be in our prayers. I stand in awe at your strength! I really do!
