There is a lot of water in Seattle and I'm not talking about the rain. I'm talking about bodies of water all over the place. I never know if I'm looking at a huge lake or an ocean inlet. To add to my confusion we checked out the Ballard locks. It's where fresh water meets sea water. About a 100 years ago some guy came up with a passage way for the boats to sail from one to the other even though the water is at different levels. I was confused until I saw it for myself.
Here's the lock or passage way thingy, all lonely and empty |
Here are a couple boats inside the lock/passage way thingy |
Here are the boats, inside the lock, being lowered with the water level so they can sail away |
Just don't ask me if they were sailing to or from the ocean. I never figured that part out. Next time I'll have to actually read all those boring displays at the visitors center.
But isn't it exciting?! I know I could barely contain myself. It just goes to show you that as long as you're outside on a sunny day you'll have fun no matter what you do around here. Did I mention it's free? It is.
