It wasn't because of the food (or patriotic cheesecake) that made our 4th so awesome. Or the pancake breakfast at the church followed by a bike parade for the kiddos. It wasn't the warm sunny day full of blue skies, but that sure helped. And it wasn't going for a family canoe ride at our lake just down the street that made for a fantastic day.
What made this celebration so memorable was going out with great friends in their boats to watch the fireworks over the lake. We drove out to the middle of the lake among a sea of boat lights bobbing under a dark sky, surrounded on all sides by bright bursts of fireworks. We tied three boats together, then sat back and watched the show overhead. Landon snuggled in my arms, eyes wide with excitement but eventually gave in to sleep as the night wore on. I'm not kidding when I say it felt magical, like going to Disneyland for the first time.
So while I'm glad we've got a canoe to paddle around in, our next purchase better be a boat because that was a lot of fun. There's a reason why Washington has more boats per capita than any other State. I love this place!
