Can't Fight This Feeling

Some big things happened this past weekend.  First of all, fall soccer season is over!  Hooray for no more busy Saturdays trying to be in two places at once and entertaining little boys from the sidelines while pretending to pay close attention to my little soccer star.
Marcus finished off his last game by head butting the ball into the goal.  He has some serious ball skills.  Most of the time I miss the action because I'm too busy taking care of the boys but miraculously I glanced up just in time to see the incredible header.
Ethan finally got a trophy and nothing else matters.  Now that I know about his deep desire for trophies I told him I'd stop signing him up for sports and just buy him a trophy.  He is still debating whether or not to take me up on that idea.
Speaking of Ethan, we have been working on getting him to control his emotions better.  To be more specific, this kid cries at the drop of a hat and we're not talking a couple of tears and sniffles.  No way!   We are talking full on weeping and wailing as if something catastrophic has happened, like the loss of a limb.  He's set a goal, well, I set the goal for him, to go an entire day without crying.  Friday night came and he had been tear-free when all of a sudden he threw himself to the floor, and started wailing.  Before a tear could fall I shouted, "Don't do it, Bean!  Don't cry!  Be tough and take deep breaths!"
Picture the Incredible Hulk guy fighting the urge to succumb to the green monster.  That's what Ethan reminded me of.  I figured all hope was lost.
Then out of the blue, Marcus shouts, "Think of pink unicorns dancing on a rainbow, Ethan!"
Ethan paused.  My jaw dropped as I turned to stare at Marcus.
"Pink unicorns dancing on a rainbow!"  repeated Marcus in a sing-song voice.
Ethan smiled, wiped away a stray tear, picked himself up off the floor and carried on as if nothing had happened.
Too bad the Incredible Hulk didn't know the power of rainbows and unicorns.

  1. Our 2nd born sons sound exactly similar in nature. I'm pretty sure the vision of pink unicorns dancing on a rainbow might help Walker in his next meltdown. Definitely employing Ethan's imagery!
