This year I told the boys I wasn't going to buy any costumes. We have an overflowing bin of costumes and the boys usually change their minds about what they want to be so I figured this was a good decision. It was.
We started a new tradition of making haunted gingerbread houses for Family Night using the candy the kids got from our church's trunk-or-treat. This was a good idea.
On Halloween I let the boys eat sugar cereal {Cap'n Crunch Halloween Edition}for breakfast. They thought this was a great idea!
While they were at school I made pumpkin cream sandwich cookies, which were divine. Landon took one bite and immediately started screaming, gagging, and crying. I guess his taste buds have not come to appreciate the goodness of desserts with cream cheese so I wasn't too offended. Everyone else loved them so it was still a good idea.
Then I made spooky eyeball meatballs with homemade marinara sauce. The boys couldn't have cared less. Marcus was too worried about missing out on trick-or-treating time, Ethan was sobbing because I can't remember why, Landon mushed everything up with his fork until it was no longer edible, Randy was upset I hadn't bought enough Halloween candy, and I was upset at everyone for being ungrateful. Next year we're having cereal for dinner.
I took the kids trick-or-treating in the rain. Lame! It's not like we still live in Seattle where you'd expect that kind of weather. But then the rain stopped and it was a warm night so other than our wet feet, it all worked out.
You win some you lose some. The next time I try doing some of that cutsie fluff to make this holiday special and memorable, remind me to forget it! It's all about the candy! Duh.
