Goodbye Boston and Goodbye Jones'

It's the beginning of the end.   We've started saying our goodbyes both to people and to our favorite places.  We decided to take one last trip to Boston and there was no one better to do that with than the Jones Family.  We met Peter and Cami within weeks of getting married and moving to Boston back in 2002 so saying goodbye to them was significant and sad.  Thankfully we both have family in Utah so we know we'll see them again.
We started our day off at the USS Constitution because Randy has never actually been on the ship and sadly, we picked the one day it was closed so Randy lost his chance.  I guess we'll just have to go back!  We explored the museum/visitors center and the kids loved learning about life on a ship.

These copper plates are being put along the bottom of the USS Constitution and we got to engrave our names them.  I guess you could say we left our mark on Boston forever!

Here is Cami and her 4 kids

Sorry about the blurry iPhone pics.  I didn't want to lug around my nice camera all day.

The hammocks were a hit.  We definitely need some!

We played at a cool city park to get some energy out and then drove over to Bunker Hill.  I've only ever climbed to the top of the monument once and our boys have never done it so now we can check it off our bucket list.

Looking "cool"

Cami hiked all those stairs with Cece on her back.  Impressive!

We drove around the North End searching aimlessly for parking, gave up on the idea, and double parked while Cami and I made a mad dash into Mike's Pastry for one last fix.

We fought more traffic as we made our way to Cambridge for lunch.  We ate disgusting pizza at a Crazy Dough Pizza, a favorite place of ours back in 2004.  Apparently a lot has changed since then and now we know to never go back!  After the disgusting meal we walked around Harvard Campus.  The boys had never been there so we made them rub John Harvard's boot for good luck.  Ironically Randy never spent any time at Harvard's Cambridge campus.  The dental and medical school is on the other side of the Charles River in Boston, near Fenway Park, but there's not much to see and if I'm being completely honest, going back to Randy's old stomping grounds kinda makes me want to cry.  Those were some tough years!

We finished off the day back in Lexington at the Jones' house.  We ate our favorite Blue Ribbon Barbecue and went on a walk.  It was a fun day and so, so hard to say goodbye.  We've lived on the East Coast for eight years and it is seeing this phase of our life end makes me sad.  I think I've been in a bad mood ever since.  Seriously.  Saying goodbye is so hard!

  1. Fun to see both posts! Your 4th bbq looked delicious! And so true about baseball - none of the kids can play! We had the same experience a few weeks ago.
