October Things

October flew by! We did another mandatory family fun day and maybe one of these days we will convince Randy and Ethan to join us :) I took the boys to Jubilee Farm to pick pumpkins.  They were complaining for about the first 30 minutes and finally gave up and had fun.  Poor Henry has never done anything like this.  I guess once our older boys started playing sports, our weekends were always too busy.  This fall was the first time in years that no one was playing any sports.  It was the best thing that happened to my sanity.  Randy and Landon actually took up golfing so they could fill their Saturdays with something.  Anyway, back to the pumpkin patch....It was a beautiful fall day to pick pumpkins, and yes, we actually had to cut them off the vine.  Funny story--Landon told Parker to get the clippers out of the blue bucket and Henry said "blue fucket?"  What's a blue fucket?"  The boys immediately died laughing which made Henry yell his new word even louder until I looked him in the eye, grabbed him by both shoulders, and told him there were buckets, not fuckets, and if he ever said that word again he'd spend the day with soap in his mouth.  I love embarrassing myself in public.  Best part of parenting.

My younger boys have never seen the famous tractor scene from the movie Footloose so naturally we looked it up on YouTube and watched it three times before bedtime :)

Henry loved the hay ride and waved to everyone we passed

Parker has never ridden a horse so I paid $8 for him to ride around a small pasture.  He was totally unimpressed but he can check of horseback riding from his bucket list.
Henry on a pony is the cutest thing ever!

Landon's cooperation for all this family fun was the promise of a cheeseburger.  This boys is OBSESSED with cheeseburgers.
Riding and "old fashioned" bike

The next Saturday it was 80 degrees!  The kids swam in the hot tub and ran around in the backyard and I almost cried when the rains came the following week.

Ethan and his friends are always up to something and this time it was hooking an old yucky couch up to the rope swing :)

We had record breaking smokey skies for a couple weeks.  At one point we had the worst air quality of anyone in the entire world.  Yay for us!  This also put a damper on fall sports.  Landon's cross country season was pretty much canceled.  He was thrilled to only have 3 meets instead of 7 and almost no practices.

The final race

Landon runs slow and steady but finally started putting in some effort and quickly improved by the end of the season.

Landon and two of his good friends from church.  These boys have become great friends and they nicknamed him Gregdon :) Chuck Norris is on the left and Dwayne the Rock Johnson on the right. I love this age!

Marcus has lost 55 pounds and is surviving the ups and downs of mission life.  He is in a small town in the middle of nowhere but it's where Pele, the great soccer star, grew up.

The fall colors are gorgeous and I actually get to see them now that I don't always go running at the crack of dawn anymore.  I can usually squeeze in a run after I drop Henry at preschool and being able to run in the daylight is glorious!

Stunner!
