We've been wanting a boat for years and we finally bought one! It's seriously been on our bucket list and luckily we asked the right friends if they wanted to go in on a boat with us and suddenly we are boat owners. We share this giant 23-foot Axis with two other families, the Nielson' and the Stacey's. Stephen Nielson knows how to get stuff done, unlike us! Within days he'd created spreadsheets, made phone calls, and basically figured out the boat plan for us. We met up together and picked out the boat design and worked out some of the logistics over dinner and that's when the ball really started rolling. Before we knew it, the boat was ready. Stephen even did all the work and research to find us a used truck to pull the boat with. We keep the truck and boat together, parked in the Stacey's driveway and have worked out a schedule for taking the boat out. Right now it basically goes out anytime someone can fit it into their schedule. The great thing about sharing a boat is that we split the cost on everything so even when there's some sticker shock, as soon as you divide by three things feel pretty good. Plus, it forces us to be intentional with our time so when it's our turn with the boat, we will do everything we can to get out on it. The other wives and I are hoping we will become confident enough to drive this giant boat around and dock it at the boat launch so we don't have to wait for one of the busy husbands to do it. But I have a feeling that's a long shot. There's a reason you never see women at the boat launch driving the boats around. It's hard!
Luckily, we've had some unusually warm weather in May so we've taken the boat out a couple times. We had no idea Randy was good at backing up a trailer but so far he's got mad skills. We got the boat unloaded and docked pretty easy the first time. Marcus was in his element out on the surf board and even though the boating kills his head, he had a good time.
This boat seats 16 so it feels pretty empty when there's just a few of us. Ethan was at work and Landon had school so they've still never been out on the boat.
