The Historic Heat Wave

We just experienced the hottest weather Seattle has ever experienced. We are talking once in a millennia!! We occasionally get temps near 100 degrees but Sammamish made it all the way up to 109. Throw in a little humidity and it was SO HOT. Only about 40% of homes in our area have air conditioning and thankfully we are one of them. But it’s weak and doesn’t do much for the bedrooms upstairs, even if we keep the doors closed. Ethan slept on the floor by his vent and Marcus slept on the floor downstairs because his room was just too hot.

I invited a couple families who didn’t have AC over for dinner on Sunday when it was 103 degrees so it was fun and felt like we were weathering the “storm” together. Monday was the record breaking day. Landon had a morning lacrosse camp on the turf fields from 9-12 and luckily they did lots of water games and threw wet sponges on each other. After that we all stayed inside as much as possible until the evening when the boys filled water balloons and jumped on the tramp with them. There were power outages all over the place and many restaurants and businesses closed for the day. Ethan worked Saturday night at Dairy Queen and was told to skip the uniform and wear shorts and a t-shirt because it was so hot inside with the grill going and the drive-thru window open. He was miserable and wished he’d put an ice pack on his head underneath his hat.

So that’s the way Seattle does heat…we don’t!!
