Due to the earthquake in Chile, we were warned a tsunami was to hit our island around 3:00 pm. Everyone who lived less than 30 feet above sea level was evacuated, which meant our entire base had to evacuate except for the houses on our hill. The gates to our base were closed for the first time since we've lived here, preventing anyone from entering.
Obviously we weren't too worried about a flood as we had a great time hanging out with several families, and watching the ocean, hoping to spot the enormous wave. Well, a wave never came but is sure was fun waiting for it. In a strange yet exciting way, it kind of felt like the 4th of July. Excitement was in the air as everyone gathered outside, people set up picnic blankets, and kids ran freely while their parents socialized. I loved it!
Check out all the cars lining the street as people flocked to higher ground
Why do I wish I could be there for the Tsunami warning? Because I miss random reasons to get together for ice cream with the group. UGGG! I MISS OKINAWA! P.S Tell Wendy I love her belly.
ReplyDeleteMelanie!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a facebook or email or something? It'd be much easier to keep in contact. ;) I loved that blog about your sis. I'll have to remember her birthday for next year. :)
Okay, now this is really great. You are watching for the big wave in your church clothes. That is amazing. No worries here.
ReplyDeleteLOL!! Love it! I still you think you should have made the kids run around in swim suits and life vests with boogie boards near by, just for the hilarity in the photos! Glad nothing hit though, that island is too pretty!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys had way to much fun!! To bad we didn't live on lester. In stead we went to the roof of our tower and laughed at people.
