EARTHQUAKE!

It was 5:30 am on Saturday morning when everything started shaking. Even though we had been sleeping deeply and peacefully, we knew exactly what was happening as soon as it started. The shaking was enormous. (7.0 on the Richter scale.) Randy ran into Landon's room and pulled the pictures off the wall that hung above his crib, before they could fall off and squish the little guy. Meanwhile Ethan yelled, "Marcus, stop shaking my bed! I'm trying to sleep!"
Meanwhile I prayed. The shaking continued and just as I began to panic, wondering when it was going to stop, a few gentle waves hit and then all was calm. Even the frogs in the backyard were silent.
After looking out the window and confirming there wasn't any noticeable damage, Randy went back to bed while I thought of all the things to grab in case a tsunami hit. Luckily we live on a hill.
But then something big happened. Something almost as big as the earthquake itself. It was this thought: I am so thankful we live in a bomb shelter.
What?! Did I really just think that?
Yes I did and I meant it with every fiber of my being.
So pigs are flying and I think Hell froze over because it turns out the bomb shelter isn't so bad after all.

  1. ha ha ha ha ha! i thought the same thing. looking at our bomb shelter tonight was the only thing to convice my boys we'd be safe if it happened again. i think the story of the three little pigs made sense all of a sudden. although, noah was like, "that was just wind, mom. this was shaking." still, it was reassuring. i was thinking how lucky you guys are in case of the tsunami being up on that hill. i was going to call you and see if we could sleep the rest of the morning up there, but realized i was probably being paranoid. never a dull moment, eh?

  5. And even the frogs were silent....wow, is that a first?! On the frogs that is! :) Glad you are finally appreciating your bomb shelter!!! I loved mine and feel sooo vulnerable out here in tornado and hirricane land in my sturdy, not, American dwelling, pretty, but not sturdy like the bomb shelter!!
