Robbery Made Legal: Welcome to Washington!

Moving is so expensive. Besides purchasing cars, cell phones, furniture, cleaning supplies, and restocking the pantry, we also have to register our cars and get new driver's licenses. I am now the proud owner of a Washington state driver's license. Unfortunately this license cost more than I bargained for.
Little did I know that while I was waiting in the eternal line at the DMV, my swagger wagon was being towed. I raced out of the DMV, through the crowded parking lot and crossed the street to see an empty parking stall with no van in sight. I panicked. Then remembered I was the proud owner of a cell phone and dialed the number of the towing company that was posted on the sign I had managed not to see when I scrambled to find parking. Now I'll skip all the details about jogging up and down the street, looking for the towing company, finding the towing garage just in time to see the tow truck guy throw his back out and lie on the ground smoking a cigarette while waiting for an ambulance to come. The part you need to hear was the tow truck guy (not the injured one) say, "You can have your van back as soon as you pay. It's $400."
EXCUSE ME!
Yes, that's right. Four hundred dollars and they hadn't even taken my van off the truck yet. I won't go into details as my emotions will get the best of me but I will say this: Why didn't anyone tell me highway robbery was legalized in Washington? And why on earth is Randy in a residency program to become and endodontist? If he really wants to make some serious cash he is in the wrong business because towing is where it's at. Pretty sure it doesn't require any form of education either.
When I got home and told Randy the news he was very understanding. I think it helped that I was crying. Then he left for the store and on his way out the door he said, "Hey, do you still want me to buy a new vacuum? How much was the one you wanted?"
"Four hundred dollars," I responded sheepishly.
"We're not getting the vacuum," he said as he walked out the door.

If I set up a Pay Pal account, will you donate to may cause?

Root canals are much more interesting than towing weirdos cars :)
This is so hard to publish this comment. I've been working on it for at least 2 min. I'm about ready to give up.

  3. Oh my goodness!!! $400? That's horrible. I can think of a lot of things I could buy with that kind of money. You'll have to come up with a list of things for us foreigners to learn when we move back to America. Bummer!

    I'm shocked by your story.

I hope you still get your vac somehow.

I'm off to convince Brian to change professions.
