You know how I said I had to distract myself while Marcus was experiencing his first day of school? Well, Randy was miraculously not at school so I took him to the Seattle Aquarium. He walked through it in about 15 minutes and said, "That's it?" Obviously it's not much in comparison to the Okinawa Aquarium but I'm totally over it. Just standing outside the tropical fish tanks brings on a flood of memories from our many snorkeling adventures. The boys point to the fish and exclaim over and over, "We saw that one at Maeda! Oh, and that one was at the Aquarium too. But it was a lot bigger there."
People probably think we're crazy. We are.
The best part of our little adventure to the Aquarium was when we discovered an Okinawan restaurant across the street. The prices were cheap, the food was excellent, we ate with chopsticks, and I was in heaven. I even busted out some Japanese when the waitress brought our food.
I have vowed to dine there frequently. If I have to single handedly keep them in business that is a sacrifice I am willing to make. I don't mind.
What a wonderful little piece of paradise! The aquarium with all the cool fish - and I think it's really cool you found an Okinawan Restaurant! Glad you have hung onto your Japanese ... I said "hai" to a greeter at Walmart the other day. He was Asian - apparently I thought I was back in Okinawa. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're making me want to extend our orders for Oki with all your happy Okinawan memories. I'm glad to see you are back to "normal" life in Seattle. Miss you.
ReplyDeleteWow an Okinawan resturant how cool and fun. Glad you are up and around enjoying Seattle :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, I was disappointed with the Aquarium too. You would think with Seattle being famous for its marine life that the aquarium would have more to offer. That's awesome you found an Okinawan Restaurant nearby though. If you are looking for something fun, my kids favorite spots to visit were the Woodland Park Zoo and the Pacific Science Center.
ReplyDeleteMelanie,
ReplyDeleteWhat a most random find! An Okinawan resturant? That's awesome! How are you guys doing these days? I hope you don't mind us checking in on you from time to time....you guys certainly are missed a bunch out here. Take care!
What a great day! We did the same thing when we went to the Virginia Aquarium. I just wasn't that into it and it hardly compared to Oki's. We got sushi to go for lunch today and after 1) being served by an Indian man and 2) realizing that it was previously frozen fish we were ready to go back to our lovely tropical island! Great find- although it is truly up to you to keep it in business now!! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool you found that restaurant! I would totally go weekly too. Is the food as good? I'm so jealous. Did you see any dangerous octopus at the aquarium?
