I had a rare moment today when I was able to take a break from everything and sit down to play my piano. As I played I couldn't help but look at the pictures of my mom and Lindsey that sit on top of the piano. Before I knew it I could hardly read the music when tears blurred my vision as my thoughts lingered a little too long on the people I miss so much. I cried because part of me has gotten too used to not having a mom in my life and the other part of me knows I will miss her for the rest of my life. Sometimes that feels too long.
But the other day I came across a real treasure. Back in the day when we lived in Okinawa, we used Vonage to talk to people in the States. Any time someone left a voicemail, we'd get an email with the voicemail attached, so we could listen to our voicemail through our computer. Miraculously I hadn't deleted these emails even though I doubted I'd be able to listen to them once our account had been closed. So I have 3 very short recordings of my mom's voice. Listening to them is as close as I'll get to having a conversation with her on the phone.
I also found a link to a movie my single sisters put together, starring Lindsey. It's hilarious and reminds me to be happy because she was always happy, especially when she was wearing her cowboy hat. Ironically it is filmed at the cemetery where she was buried.
The moral to this story: Don't delete emails. You never know when you might want to read them again.
that makes me SOOOO happy!!! Sometimes, I am too sad that she is gone...Thanks for putting that one. I will watch it often.
ReplyDeleteOh Linz! (Not to mention Leesh!) Haha! That was the best! At first, before I got to the bottom of your post, I thought you were going to have the recording of your mom and I was already tearing up. Then that video came up and I was just laughing. Thanks. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteThat's great! Footloose has inspired many people! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! Thanks for always reminding us what's important. I love that you actually blog routinely, unlike us that do a marathon blogging week catching up on the previous months. We miss you guys. Keep sharing your treasures, golden nuggets and fun experiences. The Neals love the Balls! P.S. I think Breck wants a stump with nails for Christmas now.
ReplyDeleteI loved the video!!! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteDid you get my permission to post that video? How embarrassing. I miss too. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteLoved the video!! Ty and Ryan heard the music and came over, they love the movie that inspired your video! Glad you guys are enjoying Seattle!! I love Paulsbo! My sister lives there, her husband is a dentist in Silverdale! lol It was fun catching up on you guys!!! Yes, hard to imagine the kick back days of Oki aren't just some vague dream....life is fabulous there and people could never understand why we stayed there for 6 years and that we would have stayed longer if the USMC would have let us! Sigh.....but i am enjoying the East coast of NC....never lived in the south before!
ReplyDeleteWow, you are a genius to think of the voicemails! That is wonderful!
