My dad is married again. Weird.
Friday night was the big dinner where every member of both families was together for the first time. It was a little awkward as introductions were made but with the help of yummy food and delicious cheesecake, it was easy to feel comfortable around each other.
We kids kicked out the bride and groom so we could put together a song for the luncheon and even managed to get a group shot of us all trying out their new bed. We gave it two thumbs up.
I tossed and turned that night, unable to sleep before the big day as I came to grips with more big changes in my life. I started to cry as soon as Dad and Kathy walked into the room to be married. My first thought was, "Holy cow, my mom really is dead." Throughout the ceremony a little voice in my head kept saying over and over, "Mom is dead. Mom is dead," making it very hard to concentrate on anything else. Apparently I'm still coming to grips with this fact.
However, seeing my dad and Kathy so happy, despite the major losses they have both suffered is truly inspiring. (Kathy's husband passed away in a motorcycle accident 9 years ago.) It is true that time heals all wounds.
". . . And that's the way we became the Bingham-Spjute's!" (Brady Bunch theme revised)
Wow Melanie-
ReplyDeleteYou are so super strong. I can't imagine the emotional roller coaster you've been on for the past three years. Good luck with the new changes to come!
Oh my goodness! Change is always quite shocking -- my mom got remarried about 5 years after my dad died and it was still shocking and a bit strange. I must agree that you are super strong. This new "brady bunch-like" arrangement will bring even more opportunities to become stronger and to learn to love even more people. That's what it's all about, right? Your families look good together. :)
ReplyDeleteWay to go, you made it! I have a hard time comprehending your mom is gone and that your dad is no re-married too, weird! Lisa showed the "Bingham-Spjutes" video on Sunday, totally awesome. And in true Spjute form. Nice work! Heard some awkward things about cowboy poetry from uncle Craig and random musings from my dad. My apologies.
ReplyDeleteLove you Mel! You are truly inspiring for so many reasons!!! We wish you all the best with your new beginnings.
