Content

I am content.
On Friday, I asked the boys if they wanted to go to the park for a picnic lunch and Bean suggested we have a picnic in the backyard instead.  This got everyone excited and each of the boys helped carry things outside for our lunch.  We spread out a blanket and brought out a tray of food (hot dogs, chips, and drinks) and talked as we ate.  Soon I was left alone on the blanket as all three boys transformed into monkeys, climbing high in the trees.  Well, Landon climbed on the lower branches eagerly waiting the day to join his older brothers higher up.
As I sat on the blanket my mind wandered through the events of the past summer.   I realized the things that made this summer memorable were the little adventures I went on with my boys:  Regular bike trips to the grocery store for donuts or sushi, picnics at the park, soccer games in the backyard, staying up late reading books about pirates, boating on the lake, and many trips to the zoo and museums.  And when the afternoons stretched out long and empty before us, the boys went to karate class, courtesy of a great offer on livingsocial.com

It has been a good summer and like all good things, they must come to an end.

  1. Marcus and Ethan make handsome and serious karate kids! That is a cool sport that I wish we would have tried.... non-violence is a characteristic of a good home.

Your summer days sound so fun. [I'm at the point where I'm craving more structure so I'm dwelling on the days when we've sat on our behinds watching television. (not so adventurous or fun.....)]
