Alive, But Barely
One flat tire and a kid with the stomach flu later and we've survived the weekend.
It was Friday evening, 5:30 pm, and I was driving home from running a few errands with all three boys in tow. The warning light on my dashboard told me I had low tire pressure so I planned to stop by the gas station and fill up the tires. About thirty seconds later I realized the tire was completely flat so I turned on my hazards and slowly crept up the winding 2-mile road to get to our house. We were limping along with a line of impatient cars behind us as I wondered how much damage I was doing by driving on a flat tire. Once we reached the top of the hill where there was a shoulder to park on I ditched the van and walked home. In the dark. In the rain. With three kids. While we were walking along the shoulder of the road (because there wasn't a sidewalk), the thought crossed my mind for the first time that maybe I should've called for help. But oh well. Since no one got hit by a car we're chalking this one up to another grand adventure that Randy missed out on because he was at school. But he didn't miss out on all the action since he got to change the tire in the pouring rain, then we were off on our date night while our friends watched the kids. After a romantic night of bowling with a bunch of our friends, we returned home to Landon who had been throwing up ever since we left. Four hundred dollars later and ten loads of laundry and we've managed to recover just fine.
Sometimes life is hard. Just ask Landon.

ReplyDeleteAwww ... living the life of adventure through you, Mel! :) It's better on the other side ... for now! I'm glad everyone's okay and everything is back to normal (just reminds me of how boring that can actually be).
