I Teach

Besides being the cook, the maid, the driver, the barber, and the nurse, one of my other job titles along with "Mother" is piano teacher.  I can't stand to pay someone else to do what I can do for free.  I taught piano lessons for years and it really paid off when Randy was in dental school.  But teaching my own kids is a totally different ball game.  Let's just say I have no idea how people home school their children.  At least half the time there are tears of anger and frustration or out-right refusal to do something I ask them to do.  But I persist.  Besides, there isn't another option while we're living out here in the sticks anyway.
The point of all this is that I planned a little informal piano recital for my boys.  I wanted them to have the experience of memorizing music and performing it in front of an audience.  I invited my friend who also teaches her kids {she's too busy to teach mine or I'd arrange some sort of swap} and we had a great evening.  The kids dressed up, announced their pieces, bowed after their performance, and we cheered, hooted, and hollered as if they had just performed at Carnegie Hall.  It was great fun!
Little do my boys know this is now going to be a tradition that will happen every six months.  {Insert evil laughter here.}

She's so cute with her little harp I want to keep her for my very own.
Here are two little clips of their performances so the grandparents can feel included.

But my boys really do love music.  Here are their two favorite YouTube clips they love singing to.  I think we're single-handedly responsible for the majority of the views.  Yes, it is totally normal to overhear Landon singing, "It feels like the perfect night to dress up like hipsters. . . " Randy is not thrilled.  But even he admits it's cute.

  1. Bless you. I couldn't teach my children. That's why Erika does it. Also, she's better and more patient than me so it works out for everyone!
