The Greatest Surprise Ever!

Last Friday, Randy and I were sitting in the den when we saw an orange colored car pull into the driveway.  Randy looked up and said, "I think that's Toby!"  {Toby is my brother-in-law who lives in UT and loves all things orange and usually wears something orange every single day.  So when Randy saw an orange car it was natural to think of Toby.}  I replied in a very know-it-all voice, "Just because it's an orange car does not mean it's Toby."  Well then we saw Toby get out of the car and I started screaming.  I yelled for Ethan to answer the door so he could witness the surprise.  When Bean pulled open the door Uncle Toby was standing there along with his daughter, Megan.  Our jaws were on the floor.  I've always wanted family to be able to drop by unannounced but that doesn't happen when it involves a serious road trip or a flight to get to one's home. Our excitement and surprise rivaled a Christmas morning.
Turns out that Toby had a work trip in Portland and Megan was on spring break so they flew to OR, took care of business, then drove 3 hours to our house for a quick 24-hours, and then flew back to UT the next day.  Since it's our spring break we had nothing going on, not even sports, so it was perfectly timed.

Marcus was at the YMCA so we quickly picked him up in the orange car and he was stunned into silence at the sight of Megan.  We stopped by the new Metropolitan Market that just opened up nearby so they could experience "The Cookie."   They are delicious, huge cookies made with Brazilian chocolate chunks, toasted walnuts, and served hot out of the oven.

We went out to dinner at Vivo 53, a restaurant with good Italian food but really amazing ice cream sundaes.  We stuffed ourselves and it felt good!

That's the hazelnut chocolate sundae complete with an entire slice of cheesecake on the top.  It lasted about 30 seconds before it was devoured.  I cringe thinking of the feeding frenzy that took place in a public restaurant.

The next morning we had a little bit of clouds, rain, and sunshine all mixed together so we went on a  hike through the forest.  It's always fun taking Utah people around because they are amazed at all the green everywhere, even though the leaves still aren't out.  I think the kids spent more time walking along fallen trees along the paths than on the actually hiking path.  Luckily no one was hurt.

Thanks for the fun surprise, Toby!  You are welcome here anytime!
