If you can’t go somewhere fun, the next best thing is to have fun people come to you. Months ago I anticipated spending a week in Utah for a little fall break but remote learning is much more intense than it was last spring and it just wasn’t worth the trouble. Luckily the Johnson’s had a real fall break and were anxious to get out of Utah so they came to visit us for a few days. The weather was supposed to be sunny and beautiful it it ended up being mostly cloudy with a little bit of rain. We still played hard though and had a great time.
We biked across the 520 floating bridge into Seattle. We biked across the Montlake bridge, a real drawbridge that ruined many a commute for Randy back in his residency days, and biked into the Arboretum too. It was about 9 miles round trip and Parker did a great job keeping up with us on his tiny bike. Henry was at a play date and Marcus and Ethan were doing school so they missed this adventure.

The arboretum reminded April of Cambridge but it’s been awhile since I’ve been to England so I’ll take her word for it!

The Four Amigos - Landon, Parker, Max, and Sam |
The teenagers took off in the evenings doing teenager things and brought home a huge 150 pound pumpkin. It takes up our entire front porch but also makes for great fun in the backyard.

We went to Starbucks and tried their apple cider. It was delicious and perfect for a dark, rainy afternoon.

S’mores in the backyard is always a win (unless you’re Max who got shoved by his little brother in a fit of rage) |
We took everyone to the Redmond bike park and had a great time. Just as Megan blew our minds with her ability to make it up one of the steep jumps, we congratulated her and then she feel back down and we laughed our heads off. If our kids can’t laugh at themselves, at least they know their moms will. And Henry is the cutest biker there ever was. We stopped for some ice cream on the way home and caught a Trump parade of cars driving by with flags. We waved which made the cars honk even more and annoy everyone around us. It was hilarious!
