It Snowed!

We had our annual PNW snow storm last weekend. We didn’t lose power (win!) and had so much fun playing in the snow. I finally went skiing so that was a monumental event. I haven’t been skiing in four years because...Henry. Randy always takes the older boys but this time Landon absolutely refused to go so I said, “Fine. Then you can stay home with Henry and I’ll go!” And he did! It worked out great. Then at the last minute Ethan bailed on us so he could sled with his friends so it was just Randy, Parker, and me.

Our backyard transformed into a winter wonderland

Skiing was great, the powder was almost too plentiful, and the hot chocolate was the perfect thing. We drove home thinking that skiing without kids is pretty great but then all our happiness disappeared as we ground to a halt on the highway. We sat parked on the road for two-and-a-half hours, waiting for a major car accident to get cleared. Luckily we stayed warm, had plenty of gas to keep the car running, ate snacks, and watched a movie to pass the time. It was torture though!  Our quick ski trip ended up taking all day and into the evening. We watched as people hiked through the snow to hide behind bushes to use the bathroom. Some people had snow clothes but there were many who didn’t. We finally moved forward and drove past the 15-car accident.  Now I never want to go skiing again. The delay meant no time to grocery shop for our Valentines dinner the next day. No one cared but me that we ate spaghetti. Yuck. But I made breadsticks so that helped a bit.

Driving home and enjoying the beautiful scenery minutes before being stuck for hours

Meanwhile, Marcus was in Utah going to a Valentines dance. Technically the school dance was canceled but a group of girls made it happen on a smaller scale and held the dance in someone’s indoor basketball court. I was sad not to be a part of it all since this was Marcus’s first real date where the girl picked him up (since it was girls choice) paid for his dinner, and planned the whole thing. Marcus’s previous dances were basically meeting up with a bunch of kids, taking group pictures, followed by a group dinner and dancing. This one felt like the real deal and Marcus even found pants that fit his massive quads. Winning again!
