Space Savers
The Japanese are amazing at utilizing every space possible. We went to our friends' off-base, Japanese-style house the other night that had some space-saving features. Their table can be lowered down to floor level when they aren't using it, and when raised up you don't need any chairs to sit around it.
The Japanese took advantage of the wasted space on top of the toilet tank and use that as a sink to wash your hands in. The faucet turns on when you flush the toilet and stays on until the tank is full from the water that runs down its drain. It's a little weird washing your hands at the toilet but the water's clean. The first time Randy saw a toilet like that he thought I had washed my hands in the urinal.

I want a table like that!
ReplyDeleteMel - I couldn't find your email so I am commenting here. First I have to say that when I was in Korea years ago they did the same crazy things with their bathrooms and I thought it was genius! They had shower drains in the middle of the bathroom floor and that's where you showered - no need for a separate tub or shower...the toilet and sink got a wash while I showered, too!
ReplyDeleteSo I'm glad you made the peanut butter cups. I'd love to send you anything your commissary doesn't have - could I do that? I have your address so you'll have to let me know if there is anything you don't have that you want. You know, mini muffin cups are kind of essential. :) I'm glad you are getting a good reputation for treats...and I really think peanut butter buckets actually would be fabulous. You made me laugh with that one!
Oo, I like the table...very cool. Hey thanks for the list of books, I'm excited now!
ReplyDeleteI love the sink on the toilet--what a fantastic water-conservation feature! I totally want one. . . . or two or three. Every household should use them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Carole. Why don't we ALL have those space saving things?
