Biathlon-ing
Introducing Team Ball-Field. Randy and I joined up with our friends for a team biathlon--3 runners and 1 biker. This was my first race in 2 years so I felt way out of my league. I got done feeding Landon just in time to line up at the starting line where I found myself surrounded by active-duty marines who were five to ten years younger than me and have been trained to kill for a living. To say I felt intimidated would be an understatement.
Things only got worse as I realized we would be running in the opposite direction I had planned. This meant I was running uphill. Not only was I the weakest link on my team but now I had to prepare myself to be the last person to the exchange. I said a prayer turned up the volume on my ipod and waited for the race to begin.
The fear in my heart must have started a serious adrenaline rush because I quickly found a rhythm and stuck with it. I didn't get trampled by buff guys in spandex and I stayed ahead of the other two women, finishing my two miles in fourteen minutes. Hooray for not being last! And to all those marines who got beat by a mother of three, all I have to say is.........
"SUCKERS!"

All I can say is, Mel, you are awesome! Good work!
ReplyDeleteAhh! You're so fit and your babies like 2 days old (or at least younger than mine)! Way to put those marines to shame.
ReplyDeleteJust yesterday I was feeling all envious of your perpetual summer. Thanks for rubbing it in.
14 minutes!?! You're awesome!
ReplyDeleteMel, that is seriously fast! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe you did those hills so fast! When I turned the corner on my bike my jaw dropped...and I was on a bike! You are awesome!
ReplyDeleteImpressive time. Glad I wasn't running against you. I couldn't have even beat that time on a bike!
