True Love

Valentine's Day was a doozy this year.
The Plan:  Order takeout from our favorite Thai restaurant.  Eat dinner seated around our formal dining room table amid the glow of flickering candles while the boys dressed in white shirts and ties served us our dinner.
What Really Happened:  After baking lots of sugar cookies for two class parties, throwing a party, scrambling to find last-minute Valentine candy for the party, making the most delicious cheesecake on the planet from what turned out to be the most complicated time-consuming recipe that ever existed while doing five loads of laundry, and picking kids up from school/babysitters, I barely remembered to order our dinner.  Randy called at 5:00 pm and said, "I'm on my way."  I hung up the phone and immediately went into overdrive as I scrambled to finish the cheesecake, warm up the dinner, and clean the kitchen while the boys miraculously cleaned the rest of the house without complaint.  Everything was ready except I couldn't find the candles.  Oh well.  Scratch that idea.  Then we waited.  And waited.  At 6:00 pm Randy called to say he was stuck in traffic and wouldn't be home for another hour.  I fed the boys their dinner and waited for Randy.  Finally, at 7:15 pm he showed up with flowers for me and gifts for the boys.  Turns out this last-minute gift idea made their wildest Valentine's dreams come true.  The boys love them! Then the two of us quickly ate an un-romantic dinner together and then dropped off some Valentines to some friends.  After getting the boys in bed I finished folding the laundry and Randy did more homework.  I hardly remember my head hitting the pillow when I finally collapsed into bed.
Valentine's Day is so over-rated.  However, I'm not disappointed in our failed attempts at making the day special.  It's kind of nice to know that I love Randy and he loves me even if we don't do anything over the top for each other.  Sometimes it's a good thing to be low maintenance.  That's my kind of love.

PS - The cheesecake was divine.
I ate a slice for breakfast and lunch,
then went running pushing 2 boys in the Chariot.
I'm sure the calories I burned didn't even put a
dent in the calories I consumed but at least I feel less guilt.
