Violence: A Great Teacher
Monday nights can get pretty exciting at our house. My boys LOVE family night. They love the lessons, the activities, singing their favorite song, fighting over who is in charge of the treat, making and eating the treat, performing their latest piano solos, reciting a scripture from memory, etc. I have discovered anytime the boys get to reenact a scripture story that involves weapons/someone dying they are totally into it.
One week I put the boys in charge of the lesson. They decided to act out the story of David and Goliath. After Ethan hit Marcus in the forehead with a (paper) rock, then stood on his chest and pretended to chop off his head, Marcus jumped up and said, "We learned from this story that if we have faith and believe we can do hard things and God will protect us."
Well what do you know? Apparently some of this stuff we've been teaching the kids has actually started to sink in!
The pictures posted above are from another family night lesson. Ten points to the person who guesses the correct Book of Mormon story they are reenacting.

That's easy. Samuel the Lamanite on the wall.
ReplyDeleteIf we ever don't have the energy for FHE our kids quickly remind us that it's Monday night which equals FHE. They love it, even though we don't always.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! I love it. You should write a manual about how to raise LDS boys right.
ReplyDeleteHow are your friends in Japan? I don't know how hard the smaller islands were hit, but I'm guessing there was some damage. I hope all the people you care about are safe.
ReplyDeleteHey, I read about the earthquake and have been thinking of you and your friends. I hope they are ok.
ReplyDeleteSamuel the Lamanite?!? I would've thought is was King Benjamin... or maybe the Rameumptum
ReplyDeletelove it!! my boys will love this too! miss all your good ideas!
ReplyDeleteBe cautious as you read the story of Nephi getting the gold plates from Laban. Re-inacting that one may be life threatening. :)
