The World is Full of Idiots
I had been feeling sick all weekend and woke up Sunday morning knowing I had strep throat. After sending the boys off to church I went to Urgent Care in the hopes of getting some antibiotics. The wait wasn't too long, the doctor (or was he a doctor? Hmmmm) gave me a prescription, and I was on the road to recovery. Unfortunately twenty-four hours later I was still feeling like death warmed over. I texted Randy to come upstairs (because it hurt to use my voice) and he took one look at the antibiotics I had been taking and said, "Duh! No wonder you're not feeling any better. Those antibiotics won't do anything for strep throat!"
I believe him. He's not an idiot.
After another long night of being sick, I called my non-idiot doctor who got me in to see her immediately. She took one look at me and was nothing but sympathetic. When I showed her the bottle of Tetracycline I had been taking, her jaw dropped. She quickly wrote me a prescription for a drug that would actually work and sent me on my way.
I love her. I love that she knows her stuff. I'd like to think she studied and worked hard during medical school so she'd know how to treat her patients. I wonder if the other so-called "doctor" studied at all. Or maybe he found a way to get a medical degree online. I'm just lucky I'm married to a very smart non-idiot or I'd still be taking some useless antibiotics and wondering why my tonsils continue to grow in size.
The world is full of idiots but when those idiots are walking around in scrubs with a name tag that says Dr. on it, that really scares me.
But the bright side is I've lost five pounds from being unable to swallow. Three cheers for weight loss through starvation!
