Summer vacation means kids play and Moms works hard. I constantly have three shadows following me around all day long. Grocery shopping, exercising, and running errands is no longer simple or quick, or unaccompanied by my children. With three boys in tow everywhere I go I feel like there's an unpredictable amount of time before total chaos erupts and they go from being best buds to mortal enemies. Sometimes it happens before we even make it to our destination and sometimes I luck out and we actually survive most of the outing without any major mishaps. Naturally Landon has figured out I'm a little slow on my feet being 8 months pregnant and is my first child who likes to run away from me when we're in public, no matter how much I threaten him to stop running.
This is our first week of summer vacation and I'm working on fine-tuning our routine into something a little more laid back than usual, but still with enough structure to function. I started things off with a big announcement: Only 2 TV shows can be watched each day. This was met with much weeping wailing and gnashing of teeth as I think my boys figured summer vacation meant endless amounts of television watching. The voice inside my head kept asking me why I would prevent my kids from doing something that would give me a chance to sit down and put me feet up. But I am determined the boys use their imaginations to spark some creative fun, play with their toys (gasp!), or get their energy out without fighting like cats and dogs. So far so good. Last night as I was cleaning up after dinner Marcus and Bean put on their rain boots, rode their bikes to a small stream nearby, and explored where it went. I wish I had my camera to record them as they took off on their adventure. They were only gone a short time but they came back with stories to tell and plenty of muddy scrapes to show off. Now that's what I'm talking about!
I'm sure they keep you on your toes. I wish I lived closer so I could come and play with them!
