I took Bean shopping for a new pair of shoes and his excitement was contagious. He talked non-stop as we drove to the store and when we got out of the car he slipped his hand in mine as he skipped into the store. I never knew a boy could get so excited about shoe shopping. Is this what it's like to go shopping with daughters? Just curious.
We went to a couple stores but he knew what he wanted and wouldn't let me change his mind. He refused to try on anything that required shoe laces no matter how much I insisted and ended up with ugly, cheap shoes which were his favorite. You know the ones that you vowed you would never purchase for your kids before you ever had kids? Yeah, those are the ones but at least they were a slight step up from sneakers that light up with some cheesy cartoon character on the side (which I still refuse to buy). After I purchased the sorry looking sneakers, Ethan carried them out to the car and begged me to let him wear them as soon as possible. He skipped into the house after tossing his old shoes in the trash and wore his shoes the rest of the night, even after getting ready for bed. This kid loved his shoes. Here's to hoping the next time we shop he'll pick out something I love too.
Shopping with girls is no easier. They want the cartoon character light up shoes as well that I cringe at. They do start to skip into the store and go a bit crazy thinking everything is adorable. It is usually just best if I shop on line, give them a couple options on the website to pick from and go from there. I'm dreading the teenage years. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteHI! I have been a silent blog follower for years :) First THANK YOU! for having a blog that would sustain me during a very hard couple of years. Your blog and Darcy Burnett's literally kept me sane during Ray's deployment and other of my life's exciting adventures. Second, I am seriously jealous that your little guy loved going shopping. My girls don't want to shop with me, that want to go with Daddy :) I have six girls (and one boy) so I am hopeful that at least one of them will not only want to go with me but will like what I like as well!

ReplyDeleteKayla is a HUGE fan of shoe shopping too. And clothes shopping, and toy shopping. She likes to just walk past all the toys, shoes, etc. and dream about me buying them all for her. I never let her get the light-up shoes though, or the ones with characters on them. I guess that makes me the mother of a constantly disappointed little girl.
ReplyDeleteHaha, Gavin had those same exact shoes!
