Henry is Four!! And Randy is 44.

It’s birthday season around here folks and I wish I liked it. I feel bad for these summer birthdays that are often interrupted with vacations, travel plans, or house guests. But that’s all they know so maybe I shouldn’t feel so bad. I don’t think Henry has ever spent his birthday in WA. We are almost always in Utah and this year was no exception.

I decided the best time to celebrate his birthday and Randy’s which is two days earlier, would be on Saturday night after randy and Ethan got back from climbing Mt. Adam’s and before we all left randy in WA so I could take the boys to UT for BYU lacrosse camp. Unfortunately climbing the second tallest mountain in WA took randy longer than planned so we tried to FaceTime him so we could sing Happy  Birthday and watch Henry open presents. Unfortunately his cell was out of service. But Henry had a great time opening his two presents. I had no idea he’d love his water gun toys so much but they were a big hit for the next two weeks until he broke them from overuse. The best part of his birthday was after he blew out his candles and he exclaimed, “I’m four now!!” He’d been insisting he was three all day but apparently it was the candles that made it official. You can imagine his confusion when we wished him happy birthday on his actual birthday a few days later as he opened presents from his grandparents. He said, “I’m five now!”  We’ve been arguing over his age ever since.

And here are pictures of Randy and Ethan’s adventure climbing Mt. Adams.  Ethan says he never wants to do it again.  I’m always amazed that every backpacking/camping adventure requires another shopping trip to REI.  Surely we have enough equipment for weathering the outdoors by now but apparently I’m wrong. Or the stuff at REI is only meant to be used once.
