Lacrosse in New York

I have no time to post this so this will be a quick photo dump. After the tournament in PA ended, we drove to NYC where we survived driving into Manhattan.  I’m a good driver but it was still terrifying. Almost as terrifying as when we pulled up to our hotel where the street was filled with garbage and a rough looking crowd and our jaws dropped in horror. I parked at the curb and went inside to check us in and Marcus said “Are you sure you should leave me alone in the car?”  He was joking.  Sort of.  But our hotel was actually really nice. It was on the West Side in the garment district but only a few blocks from Times Square and our views from the 36th floor were incredible.

Unfortunately it was 95 degrees with 98% humidity. AKA Hell. So I skipped all the our plans and recommendations from friends (half were still closed for Covid) and we toured the city on top of a double decker bus. The breeze was nice until the sun came out and then we just sat there baking. We quickly biked onto the Brooklyn bridge where we immediately started dripping with sweat so after a fast picture we were done with that. You guys, it was so miserably hot. I used paper napkins from a restaurant to try to dry my sweaty self off. After the bus tour we went back to our hotel to shower and get out of our sweat-soaked clothes and then took the subway (easy peasy) to the 911 memorial museum. It was incredible! And so so sad.

We saw the NYC Temple and the Philly Temple on the same day

Biking through the city. It was scary but fun!

I had a frosted lemonade from Chik Fil-A in one hand and Magnolia’s banana pudding in the other. Divine!

A sea of sweaty, half-naked people in Times Square

Marcus was excited to see Fox News

Proof we were on Brooklyn Bridge (for about 3 minutes)

I navigated the subway like a boss!

I could’ve taken a million pictures but the picture of the destroyed fire truck speaks volumes

We left the next morning for Long Island and the drive was uneventful but only because of GPS. I changed freeways too many times to count!  The next lax tournament was intense. Marcus’s team even lost their first game but they played so well it wasn’t too disappointing. Most of the games were pretty low scoring with only 4-5 points each because the teams were so evenly matched. Typically the score is around 10-12. Good lacrosse is so exciting to watch!  Seriously so fun!

The row of college recruiters watching the games. FYI, Marcus has had several D1 offers and a few D2 with full scholarships but he has decided he wants to play at BYU. It’s a good team and he doesn’t want lax to be his life.

We spent our last day killing more time until our flight back home. I have quickly learned that these lacrosse trips consist of a lot of travel and waiting to play and not nearly as much lacrosse playing as I’d like. Games usually end in the morning, but not always, so we have to book our flights for the evening just in case they go late which means we typically have several hours of homelessness when we have nowhere to go until we check in to the airport. Marcus and I killed time in Long Island by watching the latest Avenger movie and shopping at the outlets. It was actually pretty fun and nice to get out of the oppressive humidity.

Shopping for longer shorts and no he didn’t get these because I refused

We searched high and low for my sunglasses and when I took this selfie I noticed they were on my head. I’m losing my mind!
