New Year's Eve
We went camping over New Year's Eve and had a great time with our friends despite the freezing cold weather. Yes, I'm ashamed to admit it but we were actually REALLY cold and the temperature was probably 50 degrees. People warned us it would get cold here but of course I rolled my eyes at them. After all, I'm from Utah and just spent 5 years enduring New England's bone-chilling winters. However, we were seriously cold and we had the runny noses and chattering teeth to prove it. It's a good thing we had hot chocolate to keep us warm because we left all our winter coats in the States. Our tent survived the wind much better this time due to the fact that Randy tied it to a table, trees, and The Brown Egg. After packing up camp, we headed north to Cape Hedo, the northern tip of the island and the farthest we've been from our home since we came to Oki. It's probably only about 15 miles away.

I just want to tell you how glad I am for you that your tent endured " the wind of death"! That was as cold as I've been for the last 22 months. We'll do some research on inland campsites for a change. Although the view of sleeping by the beach is a toss up. More adventures to come!
ReplyDeleteFunny after how cold we felt at times it was still a fun adventure and a good memory. I would consider it successful simply because you guys made it back with minimal damage or missing goods. You didn't lose any pots or pans, the tent was in tact, no broken lanterns, the canopy sustained only minor damages, and Randy even found a watch he had previously lost... Maybe our camping luck is changing. We'll do it again soon I'm sure.
